The patterns you live out today were likely written a long time ago.

There’s a version of you that has never felt like enough.

You’ve worked hard to feel good enough and prove your worthiness but somehow the shame finds its way back in your relationships, in the way you talk to yourself, especially in the quiet moments when nobody is watching. Shame feels like it’s part of your adult identity.

You may have always given more than you receive from others. You tend to know everyone else’s needs intimately and struggle to name your own. You show up for people and forgive them when they don’t show up for you, and somehow that has become normal.

The patterns you are living out now are a result of your family of origin teaching you who and how to be, what you’re allowed to need or want, and whether you are fundamentally worthy of love, care, and acceptance.

What is Post Induction Therapy?

Post Induction Therapy (PIT) was developed by Pia Mellody, a pioneer in the field of codependency, relational trauma, and childhood wounding. It’s a structured, experiential therapy built on the understanding that many of the patterns adults struggle with in their relationships, their self-worth, their emotional regulation, and their sense of identity have their roots in childhood experiences that were never fully processed or healed.

PIT works from the premise that all children have core needs - to be valued, protected, guided with age-appropriate boundaries, and allowed to experience their reality as it actually is. When those needs aren’t consistently met, children adapt. They develop coping strategies that help them survive their family system, and those strategies become the patterns that run their adult lives.

The work of PIT is going back to the original template and understanding how your family of origin shaped your core beliefs about yourself and others. It connects the dots between what happened then to what is showing up now, and guides the reparenting work that allows those old adaptations to finally soften.

PIT is helpful if you find yourself…

  • Struggling with codependency, giving endlessly, and losing yourself in relationships

  • Carrying deep shame that feels like it’s a part of who you are

  • Having difficulty knowing what you feel, need, or want

  • Attracting relationships that mirror painful childhood dynamics

  • Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions

  • Struggling with boundaries - either having none or using them as walls

  • Experiencing a persistent sense of not being enough or being too much

How Post Induction Therapy Works

Most trauma therapies focus on specific traumatic events. PIT focuses on the developmental environment - the cumulative experience of growing up in a system that couldn’t meet your needs. It’s not just about processing what happened - it’s about understanding who you learned to be because of it, and doing the work to build something different.

PIT is both structured and experiential, which means we’re not just talking about your childhood. We’re working with it at a felt level. We build a thorough picture of your family of origin, look at what you needed as a child and what you got instead, and begin identifying the wounds and messages that have been shaping your patterns ever since. The goal is never to assign blame, but to finally make sense of the template.

From there we move into deeper work - healing those wounds at a felt level, and doing the reparenting work that allows the old adaptations to finally soften. This means learning to nurture yourself with compassion rather than criticism, affirm your own worth, and set limits that come from values rather than fear. You’ll build a new internal relationship with yourself that isn’t governed by the old wiring.

My Training in Post Induction Therapy

Loran Wallace LPC Post Induction Therapy specialist The Woodlands Texas, Pia Mellody trained trauma therapist

I’ve completed specialized training in Post Induction Therapy, and it’s become one of the primary lenses I bring to trauma and relational work. PIT isn’t something I layer on top of other approaches as an afterthought. The developmental framework it offers shapes how I understand nearly every client I work with. If you’ve spent years wondering why certain patterns feel so deeply wired into who you are, this is often the work that finally makes it make sense.

I often integrate PIT with EMDR and other approaches depending on what you need. PIT and EMDR work particularly well together - EMDR helps process the specific memories and experiences, while PIT provides the relational and developmental framework that gives the processing lasting meaning. Every treatment plan is built specifically around you, your history, patterns and what will be most effective for where you are.

A Note for The Woodlands Residents:

The Woodlands holds a special place for me. It’s my hometown, and I have a deep love for this community. Growing up here gave me a firsthand understanding of the particular dynamics that shape people in this community, and how these dynamics can follow you into adulthood in ways that are hard to name.

The Woodlands is a high-achieving, family oriented community with strong values around success, appearance, and capability. Those are genuinely good things, but they can also create a specific kind of pressure in childhood - to perform, to not be a burden, to manage your emotions, to be the good kid. When children grow up in environments where emotional needs take a backseat to performance and appearance, they develop adaptations that make sense then and cause problems now.

If you grew up in The Woodlands or a community like it and you’ve noticed that the patterns you live out as an adult - in your relationships, your sense of self worth, your inability to ask for what you need - trace back to something that started a long time ago, PIT is specifically designed for exactly that.
