Has weekly therapy not been enough?
Weekly therapy is valuable. For a lot of people and a lot of concerns, it’s the right support, but for deeper trauma processing work - especially EMDR and ART - the 50-minute model has real limitations that have nothing to do with the therapist or the client.
Maybe this sounds familiar:
You’ve been in weekly therapy for a while. The work is meaningful and your therapist is good, but trauma processing has a specific arc and 50 minutes rarely gives you enough time. It can feel like by the time you prepare and get into the real material, the session is over. You leaving having touched something without resolving it.
OR
You know exactly what you need to work on. You’re motivated, you’re ready, and you don’t want to spend the next year chipping away at it 50-minutes at a time. You want to go deep, make real progress, and actually feel different on the other side.
OR
Your schedule makes weekly therapy almost impossible to sustain. Between work, travel, and everything else demanding your time, a regular weekly commitment feels like one more thing to manage. What you actually want is to dedicate real, focused time to your healing and move forward
There is a more efficient and effective way to do this work…
An EMDR and ART intensive gives you dedicated, uninterrupted time to do the deep processing work that trauma actually requires, without the constant stopping and starting of weekly therapy. Instead of 50 minutes a week, you get a focused half day or full day to go deep, stay there, and come back to solid ground before you leave.
Intensives can:
Concentrate months of progress into a focused period of time
Fit into your schedule with minimal ongoing disruption
Provide real relief from the memories, triggers, and patterns keeping you stuck
Allow trauma processing to actually complete rather than getting cut off mid-session
Help you reach your goals in less time, which means less time suffering and less money spent overall
EMDR / ART Intensives are a good fit if…
You’re doing EMDR or ART and finding that 50-minute sessions feel rushed or incomplete
You leave sessions feeling more activated than settled
You want to make meaningful progress without waiting weeks between sessions
Your schedule makes weekly appointments difficult to sustain
You’re ready to go deep and want the time and space to actually do it
Frequently Asked Questions
-
An EMDR & ART intensive is a personalized, concentrated format that gives trauma processing the time and space it actually needs. Instead of 50-minute weekly sessions, you dedicate a half day or full day to focused EMDR and/or ART processing allowing the work to actually complete. Every intensive package with me includes a dedicated intake and conceptualization session before we begin, your intensive day, and a follow up integration session.

Weekly therapy works well for many things - check-ins, skill building, ongoing support - but for deep trauma processing, the 50-minute model creates a real clinical problem. You open something up without having enough time to resolve it, and you risk leaving activated instead of relieved. An intensive gives you the full arc - preparation, processing, and integration. The result is more meaningful progress in significantly less time, which means less time struggling and often less money spent overall.
-
Yes. A growing body of research supports intensive trauma therapy as an effective and well-tolerated alternative to weekly therapy. Studies show intensive EMDR produces reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a short timeframe and has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment for complex PTSD. The intensive format has also been shown to reduce the risk of clients dropping out of treatment prematurely, meaning people not only get better faster, they actually finish the work.
-
No. The intake and conceptualization session before your intensive is specifically designed to prepare you - building the internal resources and stability you need to do the processing work safely and effectively. Many clients come to an intensive as their first EMDR experience and find it incredibly accessible when given the proper time and preparation.
-
Intensives work best for people who are ready to do focused, deep trauma processing work and want to make meaningful progress without the slow pace of weekly therapy. You might be a good candidate if you’ve been in weekly therapy and feel like you’re circling the same material, if you leave EMDR sessions feeling activated because there wasn’t enough time to close properly, if your schedule makes weekly appointments hard to sustain, or if you have something specific you’re ready to address. The consultation is the best way to figure out if an intensive is the right fit for where you are.
How an EMDR & ART Intensive Works
Every intensive follows a three phase process designed to make your time as effective as possible:
Before your intensive begins, we meet for a dedicated 50-minute session to map your history, identify the target material, and build a treatment plan specific to your nervous system and your goals. This is a clinical roadmap for your intensive so we can hit the ground running.
Phase 1 - Intake & Conceptualization
Your choice of half day or full day, dedicated entirely to EMDR and ART processing. Sessions are structured around where you are in the process. We begin with preparation and grounding, move through processing at your nervous system’s pace, take breaks as needed, and close with integration and stabilization before we finish. You will never leave in the middle of something feeling unresolved.
Phase 2 - The Intensive
A dedicated 50-minute session after your intensive to process what came up, check in on how you’re doing, and determine what support or next steps make sense going forward. Integration is a critical part of the process; this session ensures what shifted in the intensive actually lands in your daily life.
Phase 3 - Follow Up & Integration
Intensives are more effective for trauma processing
50-minute EMDR session:
10-15 minutes checking in from last session
20-30 minutes of actual EMDR processing
10-15 minutes closing, grounding, scheduling
*You might spend months working on one specific thread of trauma, paying for session after session, and still not fully resolve it because there was never enough continuous time to complete the processing arc that this work requires.
EMDR Intensive:
15-20 minutes preparation and grounding
2+ hours of uninterrupted EMDR processing
30-40 minutes of integration and closure
*That’s more processing in one session than you’d get in an entire month of weekly therapy, and because the work actually gets to complete most of the time, you leave with real resolution rather than more to manage until next week.
The Intensive Experience
Intensives can be done in person at my Scottsdale office or virtually via secure Telehealth, whichever works best for you
For in-person intensives, your day takes place in a wam, private space designed to feel nothing like a clinical setting. Think soft lighting, cozy blankets, herbal tea, and light snacks available throughout your day. There’s space between processing blocks to rest, breathe, and settle before we go back in to continue the work.
For virtual intensives, you’ll need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a comfortable setup that allows you to fully settle into your day. I’ll help you prepare your environment and make sure you have everything you need before we begin.
EMDR & ART Intensives are personalized, focused programs built around your specific goals and what you’re working through. Every intensive includes a dedicated intake and conceptualization session before we being, your choice of half day or full day processing, and a follow up integration session after. All fees are communicated transparently ahead of time.
Intensives are billed at $225 per hour. Half day and full day packages available, starting at $900. During your consultation I’ll walk you through exactly what’s included and what makes the most sense for your goals.
Intensive packages may be eligible for partial reimbursement through your out-of-network insurance benefits. I can provide a superbill for all services which you can submit to your insurance company. I recommend checking your benefits before we get started.
I offer a free 20-minute consultation to discuss your goals and whether an intensive is the right fit for you.
*Current clients interested in adding an intensive to their care - please note that your rate may differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and making sure of that is central to how I structure every intensive. We never end in the middle of processing. Every session closes with grounding and integration before you leave. It’s normal to feel emotionally tired or tender afterward as your brain continues doing its work. This is part of the healing process, not a sign something went wrong. You’ll also leave with integration guidance to support you in the days between the intensive and your follow up session.
-
Yes, and I’m happy to collaborate with your existing therapist to make sure all your therapeutic work is aligned. An intensive can be a powerful complement to ongoing weekly therapy, particularly for deeper processing work.
-
My standard cancellation policy applies to intensive sessions. I require 48 hours notice for any cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows will be charged the full intensive fee. Given the significant time blocked for intensives I ask that you plan accordingly.
